Program Notes
A unique piece written for solo percussion, which features the use of a mix of wood blocks and a kick-drum. The piece is themed around the concept of a family of woodchucks plus a rambunctious and elusive "groundhog" that makes an appearance sporadically throughout the song.
The piece requires 5 woodblocks or temple blocks that are arranged horizontally, and a vertical kick-drum mounted via multi-percussion legs. The parts are played utilizing the players choice of a 4-mallet technique, and include a range of skills including double lateral strokes, vertical strokes, and single independents.
